Many gamers are happy when they hear that beeping sound and
the pop up 'achievement unlock' and the points that are added to your gamer
score. There are groups of people that try their best to get a 100% on their
game and there are many names for those groups but the name I like the best is
Achievement Hunter and that name came form a group that works at Rooster Teeth. The
PS3 also has them but the system is different. Their called trophies
and they are rated bronze, silver, gold and platinum. They work off of a
leveling system each one gives a certain amount of percent to the next level up.
Achievement on the other hand works on a number system and they don't have the
platinum ones, which is getting all the other trophies.
Each retail game normally comes out with 1000 point and each
arcade game come out with about 400 points. People competed to see who can get
the highest games score or if they have completed the game. The world record for the
highest gamer score is above 700,000 and belongs to Stallion83. The think I
like about achievement is the names and trying to beat a friend score on a
game. The name can come for anywhere they can be puns, references or something
else. For example, a pun from fallout 3 is Rescue from Paradise and two examples for references is I <3 Red vs.
Blue in Halo 4 or From Whom the Shells Tolls in MW3. A random one is Towering Achievement from brink.
I bet there's as much competition to get a good name as to beat a high score! I never knew there were different scoring systems, though.
